Regarding the statement that the field would be "locked" -- what fence, what gate, what lock are you referring to? I am not aware of this. But it is my understanding that all MPRB fields require a permit for use, so maybe access does have to be controlled. I think part of the reason behind this would be insurance and liability. As for use of the field, here are the groups that currently use MPRB soccer fields: - 8+ non-MPRB youth soccer clubs - 5+ other Mpls. Secondary and elementary schools ? Spring/Fall soccer season games and practices - 5+ Large adult soccer leagues (private, commercial) - 2 professional teams/camps/clinics/practices/games Order of priority for soccer field reservations and permits: 1. All MPRB field uses 2. Mpls. Public Schools 3. Other Mpls. Secondary and Elementary Schools 4. Non-MPRB Youth Athletic Orgs. and Colleges 5. Adult practice time, not-for-profit Mpls. residents and groups not with MPRB sport leagues 6. Non- MPRB tournaments and private adult leagues 7. Private/commercial leagues and non-residents 8. All others on a first come first serve basis Based on what you say, the field can still be used for MPRB youth league practices, and for all these other groups too. And, now I'm not kidding, there's a demand for Ultimate Frisbee too. I am told this is a real sport. (Check out my brother's team "The Donner Party.") Nikki Carlson Linden Hills DeLaSalle parent

The Park Board and DeLaSalle think that the Park Board could use the field for league play when it is not being used by DeLaSalle. First, this means that it would only be available for organized Minneapolis Park soccer leagues. The field would be locked to neighborhood kids who just want to toss a ball around or play a game with friends. Second, DeLaSalle would use the field during the fall and spring, for extra-curricular athletics and for gym classes. That leaves the field presumably available only in the summer. A quick check of the Park Board's website will show the Park Board's youth soccer league ONLY plays during the fall. The Park Board's football league ONLY plays during the fall. Hmmm ...
