'The good programs that work for kids provide structure, such as you are talking about."
Just ask a teacher from Jordan Park Elementry School. Until this past school year, Jordan Park was a year-round school. The only month it was completely closed was December. The kids loved it. Once the teachers got used to it and saw the benefits of not being off the same time everyone else is, they loved it, too. The kids got as much time off as other schools, but in shorter streaches so they didn't forget everything and get off schedule. With all the special needs students in Mpls Public Schools, you'd think they would expand the program to other schools. Nope. They closed it last year and went back to the conventional Sept to June. Makes you wonder who needs the teaching. Anne McCandless Jordan REMINDERS: 1. Be civil! Please read the NEW RULES at http://www.e-democracy.org/rules.
