I must not have been clear enough in talking about Camp Ripley. Laura Waterman Wittstock, Diane Wiley and Ann McCandless all brought home the notion of kids with learning problems. I'm not talking about them and bringing them into the discussion changes the subject. I'm talking about junkies, substance abusers. Those folks who just make me crazy with their behavior.
Example: I was wakened at 2:05 this a.m. by two crack whacks walking up and down the construction on Lake Street, stopping to take hits off the pipe, loud talking and fighting with each other. They kept that up till about 3:30 a.m., even though the cops had a word with them around 2:20 a.m. (At 7 a.m. the Lake Street Repaving workers showed up to make noise. Without any sleep, the paving guys' legitimate work makes me cranky!)
I'm talking about the "strawberry" prostitutes who give over for crack then fling their used condoms into my bushes or who drag mattresses down the alley and set up shop behind my trash cans and leave used condoms in my alley. And the middle aged men who hunker down on my corner to drink, then fling their bottles into my flowers and pick loud fights with each other. And the junkies who use my recycle boxes to deposit human feces.
They may also be FAS or FAE or something else entirely, but the first thing they are is junkies and, lord, am I sick of them. They're the ones the cops take downtown every little whip stitch, but who are back before the cops can process the paperwork. They cycle through court where judges give them time in rehab and then they're back. I'm talking about crack whacks, meth freaks, heroine mummies, drunks, lysol drinkers.
