It has been interesting to watch the People for
Independent Parks (PIPs) fight to maintain the status
quo at the park board.

This week they hurriedly sent out an email with a
candidate questionnaire developed by Walt Dziedzic’s
daughter Kari to help them with their “endorsement”
process. With Bob Fine’s former campaign aide Shannon
McDonough as the PIP’s treasurer, the effort looks a
lot less like the impartial citizens group they are
now trying desperately to portray, and a lot more like
Bob Fine/Walt Dziedzic partisans that you would expect
family and friends to be.

I’m going out on a limb here and taking a guess at
their “slate” which they will likely announce with
fanfare this week after an exhaustive screening
process:)

District 6—Bob Fine
District 5—Carol Kummer
District 4—Christine Hansen
District 3—No endorsement
District 2—Walt Dziedzic
District 1—Jon Olson

At—large
Mary Merrill Anderson
Dan Froelich
Tom Nordyke

My favorite question on the PIP’s questionnaire was
number 2, “Is there anything about your high school
career that makes you particularly well suited to
serve on the Park Board?”

As I pondered my own misspent youth, of course knowing
where kids go to avoid adult supervision and grope
their way to adulthood would have been high on the
list of assets I would have brought were I a
candidate. But then I’m not sure if that would argue
for more cops or fewer thickets. Or neither.
