I was so disgusted by the performance on the news
Sunday morning of the owner of Molly Quinn's in
regards to the smoking ban that I will never ever
darken the door of that establishment again. They
deserve to close or rather loose their liscense if
they have that crass an attitude about their
responbility to the public as a public accomadation.

The "poor me" from some businesses which have lost
business after the smoking ban was implemented was
drawing my sympathy but the crass and irresponsible
disregard for community, public health, accessibility
and outright selfishness where the owner even said "my
worker's don't have to work for me as much as I would
like to be able to make them" or something to that
effect turned my stomach.

The idea that they are subject to OSHA standards and
not those of the EPA( as if OSHA is doing the job they
are supposed to these days anyway) and that she
doesn't believe that her employees suffer any harm
from being exposed to cigarette smoke(not to mention
her clientele) is pathetic and antiscience.

If they were saying, we've been hurt by this change
and need help to transition, I'd be sympathetic. I
support well below market loans to help them add new
amenities or improve menus or something that would add
value or even outright grants to musicians and artists
to provide innovative entertainment at such
establishments to bring in new crowds. But this idea
that they have a right to run a public accomadation
any way they like without any regard for public health
and the government regulations protecting public
health is absurd and looses them all sympathy on my
part and I'm sure on the part of many others in the
community.

Before seeing that tv show I was making special trips
to go to Molly Quinn's and other establishments more
often that are now joining in this ridiciulous
challenge to the smoking ban but now I don't think
I'll bother. If I go there it'd be to picket.

Maybe we should get alot folks who've had family
members who've died from second hand smoke exposure
and stage a die in at Molly Quinn's?
