Ken Bradley asks:

The Star Tribune endorsements for city council races 1 - 5 are in the paper
today. http://www.startribune.com/stories/1519/5683176.html

I will keep my own opinion to myself about the endorsements. I am more curious
about the following questions:

1) Do list members believe that news paper endorsements impact voters opinion?

2) Do organizational endorsements impact voters opinion?

I post these questions with no disrespect towards news papers or organizations
endorsing. I have always been curious what impact do these endorsements have on
voters.

BRANDT:
I don't pretend any expertise on these questions, but here's a guess on
newspaper editorials based on my own voting behavior. Many people come into
the voting booth with an impression one way or another about the mayoral
candidates and maybe their council member candidates. So I suspect that
endorsements here have only marginal value, and that is mainly among people who
haven't been paying attention or who are truly undecided. I suspect that they
may have more weight for the down-ballot contests involving many candidates,
such as the library, park and school boards. As for organizational
endorsements, I suspect that they may have some marginal value, but that can be
both positive and negative. Some people may vote against someone endorsed by
an organization that voter considers to be extreme and opposite in ideology
from the voter.
