This is great news! This required support of a
majority of the county commission and demonstrates
possible openness to broader public policy proposals
at the county level relating to domestic partners.

It would be great to see a county wide domestic
partnership registry similiar to that in Minneapolis
as it would extend the protections provided by such a
registry over a greater geographic area and to more
people and more situations.

I am thankful to Peter McLaughlin to bringing this
forward.

It should be mentioned that RT Rybak has signed more
items into law as mayor directly related to domestic
partners than any other mayor in Minneapolis history
and has a strong record on these issues of which we
can all be proud.

Whether the timing of this gesture appears politically
calculated to some, it certianly took some political
skill to move enough county commissioners to a
position of support of this resolution and the outcome
is welcome. It would be interesting to know the break
down of the vote.

It's good to see both of these candidates demonstrate
support of these issues though one could argue that
this might be one reason to have Peter continue
serving us on the county commission in light of his
success in bringing this forward in that political
venue.
