One of the more interesting questions raised during the campaign was regarding the gun shot detecting cameras which focus in and record upon "hearing" a gun shot being fired. Apparently they can tell the difference between a car backfiring and a gunshot and would greatly increase identification of shooters in many cases including the recent tragic cases of bullets hitting innocent bystanders.
I find this technology is fascinating and even though I'm generally opposed to cameras enterring every corner of our lives, I think this technology has promise in getting some of the most violent criminal offenders off our local streets. What do others think now that the election is over? While I believe that the public should fund public safety adequately, are their private moneys that might be available to bring this technology to some of our neighborhoods in light of current financial constraints? How many listmembers would contribute or help fundraise to assist with installation of such technology in those areas of the city with the most reports of gunshots being fired? What organizations could act as a fiscal agent for such an effort? David Strand Loring Park __________________________________ Yahoo!
