I think the biggest impact of this is whether it can
differentiate between fireworks & actual gunshots.

The acceptance & proliferation of explosive fireworks
means an almost continous stream of "shots fired" 911
complaints. Squads end up going from call to call,
almost always clearing with an "all quiet" disposition
- with it being almost impossible to gauge true shots
calls unless there's a victim or a witness. How many
squads respond & their sense of urgency seems to vary
based on geographic location and how the Dispatcher
airs the call. I get the feeling that "shots calls"
are now viewed similar to audible burglar alarms - a
nuisance, with the overwhelming majority false.

If the device can't accurately seperate fireworks
explosions from shots - then it will just another
source of response chaff.

If it can tell the difference between gunshots &
fireworks, then MPD Admin & MECC will need to figure
out a procedural way to show that in the response
priority.
