Thank you very much brett. I have a copy of Office Pro 2003 for every Pc in the business, but have been too frightened to install them. Partly because I have some databases in other businesss that I still feel responsible for.
It might have to have to be and all or non desision. I will try leaving the locking off. Will this affect only the whole record or just the field as far as multiple users go? If you read up about record-locking in Help it will explain that Access locks a "page" of records, not just one record as you would think. A "page" is an undefined value that varies with a whole bunch of variables that I don't understand and maybe are only known to the Access engineers. Apparently page locking can lock at least 50 records and sometimes more. The answer is to set everything to "No Locking". Then when two users actually bump into each other on a record, one of them has to abandon their entry until it's clear Some of this has been addressed from XP onwards (I think).
