Anyway, and not directly related to that, I think I can report some preliminary success on my attempt for a fully "self operating" string extractor (captions, hints and the like) and, provided an appropriate file is available, translator. There are a couple small obstacles to be overcome still, like a safe method to couple the original strings to the graphic elements they belong to, but this can probabely be overcome by a moderate amount of code. There's just one very basic issue, and that cannot be overcome by any amount of code: the automatic extraction can _only_ handle complete strings that are not in any way modified programmatically at runtime. So it is not possible to add "&" characters for shortcuts or to construct a caption or a hint or something else from several "stock" elements. Not with a basic version using simple "gettext" compatible translation files, anyway. It _is_ possible, though, to include place holders within the string items, to be replaced by some other utility, like a macro processor. If you were interested in the idea, I could possibly build a "nearly working" version soon, and provide a modified code of your "ideU" as a demonstration.
