I totally agree with you, David....and what's more, I attended the last Advanced Technical Conference on MSP430 in Germany last year and at that time I explained exactly that to a few TI people who were asking opinions at the end of the event.... there were many other attendees who agreed with me and the TI people seemed to be a little surprised about earing that we had enough of IAR.
