Looks like international support isn't being found.  See
https://trac.macports.org/ticket/16487, including the patch to the Portfile
that ultimately resolved it, or possibly add --disable-iconv during
configure.

Most build problems should be related to (un)installed devel packages and
not be specific to the msp430 back end, though MacOS may have special
problems since I have no access to that environment.
