--disable-iconv does not seem to be a valid switch, but iconv is supplied in MacPorts (along with the rest of the packages needed) and I have been successful in building uniarch under OS/X, using it to compile a test program, and programming through the Launchpad using mspdebug. The build is actually quite clean, and not even terribly difficult once you know what is needed. I am in the process of documenting it more thoroughly in the hopes it will help others. I will post back when that is ready.
