2012 is more “performant” due to things like SMB 3.0, better resource management, and lower overhead. I’ve seen reports of folks of using the server 2012 SSIS and saving 20%+ disk space over the ConfigMgr SSIS alone. Also, 2012 won’t EOL until (at least 2022) -- yes that seems a ways off, but how many 2003 servers do folks still have running after 10 years? Answer: boat loads.
