We are around 8,000 clients and we switched from Altiris DS 6.9 to ConfigMgr
2007, then to ConfigMgr 2012. We moved away from Altiris after the Symantec
acquisition; they lost many of their good engineers (to my knowledge) and the
7.x series product was never as solid or as straightforward as the 6.x series
in our testing. We moved to ConfigMgr with the Windows XP to 7 transition and
haven't looked back.

You might be asking sort of a biased audience though, this being a ConfigMgr
list and all :)

Subject: RE: [mssms] Altiris Upgrade 7.1 or SCCM 2012?

I know of (and have been involved with) at least three large (16,000, 50,000 ,
and 75,000 clients) organizations that have done this. One took 9 months to
compare the capabilities of the two.

I can't speak to specifics other than Altiris sucks and ConfigMgr rocks! :-)

Subject: [mssms] Altiris Upgrade 7.1 or SCCM 2012?

Uh oh. I'm gonna do it. Yes, this question is being asked only out of purely
curiosity. :)

Has anyone decided to rip out Altiris and go with SCCM 2012? I'd like to know
the pros/cons for making the decision and why you chose SCCM.

What were the main drivers?

Thanks,

Brian
