Curious as to why you are asking. We are an SCCM shop. About a year ago
we had Symantec come in and give us a demo of Altiris and MS a demo of
2012. We already use Altiris for intentory. We won't be going to Altiris,
since we are so heavily invested with SCCM and it's integration with all
the other MS products...... but.... .I have to admit at least on paper,
there were some pretty strong arguments for Altiris. Here were my notes
from that demo:

1. Workflow for software requests.
2. Does not require PKI
3. Views into virtual environments (ESX and Hyper-V)
4. Views into other Symantec products from same console (SEP, etc…)
5. Manages all platforms (Mac, UNIX, Linux, Windows)
6. 3rd party patching integrated (Adobe, Java, etc….) and no extra
cost
7. Self service portal
8. Dashboards out of the box, not on separate servers

Subject: [mssms] Altiris Upgrade 7.1 or SCCM 2012?
Sent by: [email protected]

Uh oh. I'm gonna do it. Yes, this question is being asked only out of
purely curiosity. :)

Has anyone decided to rip out Altiris and go with SCCM 2012? I'd like to
know the pros/cons for making the decision and why you chose SCCM.

What were the main drivers?

Thanks,

Brian
