There's no difference in this aspect in ConfigMgr 2012 or 2007. The package an update is in is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is that it is in an available an accessible package if the client needs it.

They have a requirement to break updates up into packages as close to 500 MB as possible, because of their bandwidth restrictions. This months updates required three separate updates packages. I've deployed the updates list now, and pointed it at the first of the three packages. Do I now need to deploy the other two packages as well? I seem to remember reading that it doesn't matter which package updates are in, the SCCM deployments management mechanism will handle it all, so long as the packages are distribute. Is this how it goes or did I somehow wishfully fabricate this feature? I'm at home deploying software and OS deploy using SCCM, just a bit fuzzy on some of the details for updates.
