Depends on your environment. I had to widely deploy on hotfix at my last employer, so we baked it into the install. Instead of having to add a separate step to install the hotfix.
Its also useful if you don't want to nuke your wsus server when doing mass installs. MS Office Cummulative Updates are released every quarter.
