Here's a real world example: I've got customers with 5 different AutoCAD install folders because of slightly different license keys, included modules, and incremental patch/service pack levels. It makes sense for them to keep the deployment type source folders separate, but 99% of the content is the same.
In the content library, instead of it being 14GB * 5 = 70 GB, it is only like 14.5 GB.
