How about just have the installation of the SP be interactive using either the App Catalog for user targeted deployments, or Software Center for system targeted deployments (assuming you are using SCCM 2012) from memory there isn't really much going on in the actual UI other then next and close out of office? it covers off the requirement for the users being able to see what is going on, the update gets installed, and if there is a requirement to restart the computer since the files were in use the application can prompt the user to restart. Try using the DOS Start command with WAIT, the wait option will start the application and wait for it to terminate.
