Been there done that too...I really hate working salary.. Its screw me one way .. and then another...  In sort of a way doing it now... Bad benefits now... Medical Insurance that is a joke... We don't have sick hours, But an "Extended Sick Leave" that you can't use inless you spend 3 vacation days first. Needless to say.. Even when you have the flu or really sick.. You still have to come to work.   I once worked for a company (my first) That required use to work 7 days a week.. like you said.. lots of promises of what we would get when the project was done.. which all fell though at the end... Working 60 to 80 hour weeks is no fun.. Even if you love what you do.. and I really do love programming!   BTW... You should consider moving to Huntsville, AL.. Its maybe 2 hours from Chattanooga, TN... I used to work for Boeing/NASA there... And since the High-Tech industry is starting to come back.. I'm sure all of the major defense contractors are really starting to hire.. Check it out...
