I used to work had a client in Huntsville, "Andy's Pest Control" (decent outfit
but they sold out to Cook's some time ago) -- made many support trips down
there. Once they had lightning hit their 2-way tower, jump from the radio to the
electrical, from electrical to a terminal 25 ft away, down the RS-232 cable into
the computer and literally blew apart the 1488/1489 chips on the S-100 serial
card. Everything was off at the time but lightning just doesn't pay any
attention to the off-switch... Although the terminal was toast (an Adds 101 I
think), I soldered in replacement chips and the system itself was
fine.
Regardless, Huntsville's a pretty nice town (or was then). Seems like an
old HS buddy still lives there and about 15-20% of our Chattacon attendees come
from there. That said, I don't think I'd like the 4hr/day commute and really
don't want to move (disrupting kids, wife, etc.). But, as you say, it is an
option...
Ciao,
Dee
