So set your lease times to 4 hours or something like that. This should fix
your problem. I don't think I've ever had a complaint from users and we
still have our lease times set down that low. It won't create extra work
for the clients to have 4 hour lease times (except maybe a few more
DHCPrequests).

Our VPN concentrator uses its own scope for DHCP. The IP address generated
by our DHCP server [while logged in directly to the network] does not
release. The problem is an IP conflict with both addresses. We would log
in and get the error message stating that "No domain controller could be
found". We analyzed the situation and found when we checked the route
tables, the old IP address was still there.

We have a manual work around, but we would like to automate the process
before we deploy this solution to end users.

Am curious why you need this capability. Are you having a problem?

Does anybody know of any registry setting to release the IP address on
shutdown in Windows NT? or Win2k?
