My thoughts exactly. I trained you well. :) -----Original Message----- From: Saraga, Scott l [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, July 25, 2002 7:43 AM To: MSWinNT Discussions Subject: RE: net send
You could delete the Net.exe from the systems and use VBScript to map all drives as it does not use Net.exe. But it would be too easy to bring in Net.exe on floppy. I think that you shouldn't bother. This is an HR type issue. Take the computer out of the story, before the computers where in the class room, you might have some kid start giving "objectionable" messages to everyone on paper. You wouldn't take all paper away from him and EVERY other student to prevent then from creating these messages again. And if you do decide to go the route of removing functionality from the computers, think about what other ways the students could send out messages to other systems on your network. You may end up having to disable several more services/programs. -----Original Message----- From: Steve Molkentin [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, July 24, 2002 10:31 PM To: MSWinNT Discussions Subject: net send Gang, Any help is apprecaited. We have a student who used the net send command to send an objectionable mesasage to all users on our network. We have disabled the messenger service on all classroom machines to stop students messageing each other, but not on admin machines so that they know when print jobs are complete. Thus, all our staff received this message - including the principal - and as you can guess, this kids is in it up to his neck now. I'd like to know if we can disable the send command within the net.exe file, as we need to use net use for mapping drives from scripts for the students. Otherwise... I'm not sure what we can do to stop this happening again.
