It's very simple (although you mension 81xx that should be 82xx),
Just short-circuit the density switch to have your drive work at double-density all
the time, even when you insert HD disks... This works in most cases.
With some computers you have to put the READY signal of the drive to ground, if

This rubber band isn't elastic anymore after all those years, so your motor does spin,

part that has to rotate the disk won't...

I hear from somebody that it is possible to use sertain 1.44Mb floppy
drives on Phillips 8150 and 8145 MSX2 computers. It should mean soldering
on the drive.
I have NEC FD1231H floppydrives.
Does anybody knows how to make the changes to the drives? (and want to
share this information with MSX'ers in diskdrive distress?)
