I believe that something went terribly wrong during the organisation of
Tilburg. I'm afraid that the whole thing will turn out to be a case of
severe miscommunication... The organisation of Tilburg has asked only
once for applications for stands, as far as I know, and didn't stress
the importance of early reservation enough. Well, they said that there
would be no fair if there were not enough applications, but probably
most people thought it was going to be allright anyway, and they wanted
to be sure to have something to sell, so they waited... I'm quite sure
there's a number of groups out there who are working on Tilburg projects
but didn't realize the urgency of the matter and therefore just haven't
reserved a stand yet.
The organisation of the fair should have sent many more mails to the
mailinglist and the newsgroup. I think they did not realize that for so
many people these are the only way of knowing what is going on in the
MSX world...
The next thing I think went wrong is that the standholders were not
informed properly, as far as I can tell from the messages on this list.
Jos told me thursday that the decision to cancel the fair had been made
over a month ago. And I've to a number of standholders during that time,
but no-one mentioned it... yet Jos claimed that letters had been sent
out to inform all almost immediately. Obviously they hadn't. If they
had, there might still have been time to protest against the
cancellation. Now, it is practically impossible to organize the fair in
the usual form on the date that it was planned...
All of this makes me wonder: who does and who doesn't care whether or
not the fair takes place? Shouldn't these things be handled by people
who really want it to happen, instead of a bunch of people who seem to
have given up on MSX a long time ago?

I hope it's still possible to have a Tilburg fair, if not in the spring
as planned then perhaps a few months later, around the time that
Zandvoort used to take place... And if there's not enough standholders
then make it more of a meeting... but it would be such a shame if it was
all over now due to some stupid miscommunications...

Wynke.
