The current driver can be optimized A LOT. If one does that it would
be logical to use 7MHz timing, and in that case you're right about
some wasted cycles if played @ 3.58MHz. After driver optimization
these losses will not be very signifcant, IMHO.
Another approach is detecting R800/3.58/7.14 and let the driver use
different I/O routines for them. This would give the most effective
result but would not be entirely safe since 7MHz can be switched
on during play...

I have seen various demo'ish try-outs by some programmers and they
look extremely promising... I hope someone will keep coding for the
GFX9000 and release some stuff.
