If Windows wasn't good and easy-to-use then it wouldn't have been installed
on (almost) every new PC.

You have definately never seen the 404 error message in BeOS 4.
Anyways, my scanner did install fine in Windows. I think what you are
talking about is not the fault of Windows, but of the developers of the
drivers of your scanner. I think it is good that Windows intercepts fatal
actions.
