They are also used at least on the Atari Portfolio handheld computer and
the NEC Turbographx (PC-Engine).

Dunno exactly whether they were designed or just manufactured by Hudson
Soft (hence the name). A Spanish company was also producing its own flavour.

They're credit card size and thinner than a PCMCIA card, with electric
contacts on one side instead of the "mini-Shugart" hole matrix.
