I don't think it's true for most japanese people, but for _all_ people.. but
I admit, there are nuances in japanese culture that even after years working
with them, I still do not understand. But what I noticed about japanese (or
koreans) which deal with westerns a lot, they tend to become more direct..
they take a bit of the western attitude to them, maybe just to be polite,
maybe because they like it.. I don't know, but some japanese can be pretty
straight forward, which comes as a surprise to most prejudiced westerners
("japanese? oh , they must be very polite and indirect"... BS!)
Indeed, it is best to state exactly what you mean, so there can be no
confusion. It goes with all things.. you can push it too far (I mean, who
would ask favours again and again, which is very rude imo).

cheerio,

Marco
