Thanks for all the responses. I would like to support emacs 23, but in
practice it seems that it takes a bit of extra time that I don't really
have right now.

However, I'd be happy to assist when someone volunteers to look into
this (I suspect elisp-afficionados are probably the /first/ to go to a
new emacs version, but who knows!). In any case, the currrent mu4e
doesn't work with emacs 23. I'll try to fix that for the next release at
least.
