I think we've all made this mistake!

gmail has/had this feature a few years ago.  It was called the "forgotten 
attachment detector".  MSOutlook can also do this, e.g.

Such a feature for message-mode could be used by many mail programs, mu4e 
included.

Does the following work --  it runs upon attempting to send the message.
