We shouldn't be fooled by this point. We were utter shite, and there can be no excuses about tired legs from having played Juve in midweek. When you're going for the premiership, you just don't surrender abjectly like this against relegation fodder. WE looked like relegation fodder with some of the worst performances of the season from half the team. But was it just individuals or was it tactics? At times our tactics were so confusing that I seriously doubt if half the team knew were the other half were supposed to be playing. I certainly had no idea what the hell we were up to with players popping up all over the place. It went beyond fluidity. In trying to confuse the opposition, we only succeeded in confusing ourselves. Giggs and O'Shea should have been working together; Becks and Neville should have been combining more than they did. JSV was breathtakingly poor, etc., etc.
It took the Bolton goal to wake us up from our sleep and we started to look as if we might be interested. Till then, our attitude seemed to be that a goal was bound to come without much effort because "we are so good". Meanwhile Bolton were working hard and looking far better than us. They created many chances. (The final stats showed they beat us on goal attempts by 14 to 5.) Suddenly, after their goal, Beckham and Neville started playing together again instead of Becks wandering all over the place. If we'd managed to equalize with 15 or 20 minutes to go, you would have fancied us to win but, once more, we failed to take what few opportunities we got. Keano missed a sitter just after the Bolton goal (but had played well up to that point). So once again we lose points to another bum little northern team, and on performances like this, it won't be long before the Champs League is all we have to play for. Maybe that's already the way some players are thinking. So many of them today didn't seem interested.
