United players 'reacting' is the last thing we want
to see. The violent conduct displayed by Arsenal
has to acted on by the FA and hopefully punished.
We only have to go back to the 1990-91 brawl and
recall it was a shameful incident by both teams.
Stooping to that level is not the Manchester United
way.

One thing that hasn't been touched on yet is the
penalty pantomime. Barthez has previously been in
on this, and yesterday we saw persistent dissent
from the Arsenal players delaying the kick.
Whilst all that was going on around the referee,
Ruud took the ball and wandered outside the
area, Lehmann made it his business to confront and
intimidate him and try to wrestle the ball off
him. The delay does not help the kicker one bit.
It is gamesmanship and cheating.

The answer is simple. The edict from the referee
should be, everyone out of the penalty area now bar
goalie and kicker. If not, Yellow Card. Goalie on his
line now. If not, Yellow Card. In no time at all we
will have penalties taken promply after the award and
less of the shenanigans. The crackdown on goalies
moving is one thing, but this is far more important.
