This looks like the words of a formerly banned one...
(-;

You got your two up front against Fulham, together
with 2 wide men that essentially made it 4-2-4.
Result?

Did we create more chances?

That kind of formation is picked off too easily
by well-organised 4-5-1 in the Premiership, as
we all saw. The Wizard has to take the real
reponsibility for leaving out his fulcrum of
Keane/P Nev/Scholes, although minor injuries
were taken into account. But all three missing
in the post Becks/Veron era is too much for the
team to shoulder.

The selection of Butt and Djemba-Djemba was
further compounded by them not having much
match-fitness lately. DD has not featured in the
first team for a while, whilst Nicky plays more
for England than his club these days. They looked
off the pace, but the formation was the real
problem.

Lessons to be learnt:

Don't take liberties with team selection.

Rotate the squad more so that you don't throw
two players in together like that who need
games.

If you are outnumbered in the middle of the
field you will get cut to ribbons.

Was the Rangers match a one-off, or is the team
selection getting
more and more negative?

If you look at the starting line-up yesterday, you
could say we
started with 6 defenders (although Phil and Quiton can
play
midfield), plus Keane who's a defensive midfielder.

Scoles and Giggs are attack-minded players, but 6
defenders and 1
striker doesn't seem like a Manchester United team
philosophy to me.

Plenty of times we had time and space on the wing, but
didn't bother
putting in a cross because only one person was in the
box. Two
strikers would have given us a good chance of scoring
on several
occasions.

Giggs was poor again up front wasting a two on one
which would have
sealed the match, and as much as everyone likes to
hate Ed, we scored
3 goals in 4 matches with Giggs up front, then 7 in 2
when he went
back on the wing. Co-incidence?

Lone striker is still not working. We struggled
against Leeds until
a second striker came on. We struggled against
Arsenal until a
second striker came on. I missed the last half-hour
of the Rangers
game but from all accounts Rangers had more possession
and shots and
were unlucky not the get a draw. Then again we should
have had a
penalty too, but how many times can we rely on
opponents missing
chances because we create so few?
