I found this howto, here are the things that make me think it's something else:

1. I can type sftp <ip address> and connect to it.  If I then cd to 
Applications/datebook, I can use get datebook.xml successfully.
2. If I use root/rootme, it fails to connect at all.  According to a previous thread, 
I need to use root/Qtopia instead (which produced the errors below).  Is there a way I 
can check the login for QCop manually?
3. It is set to allow a sync from any.
4. I am running Debian.

I did touch all the files listed before attempting to sync.
