Identity Function:
Its a special statement used in select(into) statement. Its used to create
an identity column, for the new table created. Considering, am having three
columns in my old table,am trying to insert an identity column in the new table
below is the query to achieve
the same.
select id,id1,id2,identity(int,1,1) as Identitycolumn into
venkatsample1 from sample2
select * from venkatsample1
Let's do some anlaysis on this,
Now i have tried the same to insert identity column for the table which has
identity column, by default my sql server will throw an error.
select id,identity(int,1,1) as identCol into venkatsample from sample1
The above query will throw an error indicating that "Attempting to add
multiple columns to table".
Ident_Current:
Ident_current is used to retrieve the last identity value updated in the
table.
SELECT IDENT_CURRENT('venkatsample1') will retrieve the max of that identity
columns value.
Regards,
Venkatesan Prabu. J
