I am hoping that USB on smart cards will be prevalent very soon.  The
chip manufacturers are providing it already and I guess the reader
manufacturers will pick up on it as well.  OK so the banks will not roll
out UISB smart cards in the next 5 years because of the hassle of
upgrading their systems globally but the banks are not the only users of
smart cards.

OK so I hate T=0, T=1 and T=CL with a vengeance.  USB is not great but
it really beats these other serial line protocols.  The sooner we can
get rid of APDUs the better.  They may have fitted the bill 15 years ago
but the are seriously hindering the progress of smart cards now.
