Ok then.  How about changing your folder format to something where this
will not matter?  If I sync-exit a Maildir format folder, I get a N flag
beside in the folder browser...  Although not for the current folder,
apparently Mutt is being smart and does a special-case for the current
folder, it can't have any New messages inside it since you're just
viewing it and any new messages will be marked old after you exit. :-)

That is true.  Again, this is not a problem with folder types that don't
rely on access times. :-)
