I don't need to know, I'm not using it to defend my point. If you
think it's fine to use this to support your claims, without
shouldering the burden of making some effort to examine the veracity
of thier claims, then you have just officially become someone I need
not pay any attention to ever again. Because it follows logically
that nothing you say can be trusted, unless I take the time to verify
all of your assertions myself. Which I have no intention of doing,

In my experience, it still is. Most clients still do this by default,
and most people still adhere to it, and it's still the number which is
most recommended.

This implies that the other would be equally satisfactory in every
other way. I can assure you that is not the case, even ignoring any
barriers to entry, like learning a full set of new key bindings, etc.

Yeahhhhh... they're not. I'm on plenty of lists, and people complain
about all of them. Why? Not for fun... it's because they actually
cause them difficulties. For example, digested mailing lists. There
are quite a few people who still use these. HTML mail is horrible for
that. The reasons may not be valid *FOR YOU*, but they are perfectly
valid.
