Actually, I already copied the great concept from KMail :) This means
that you can always just use Up/Down keys to scroll the message, and
the Left/Right keys will go to the next/previous message. I think,
this concept really makes sense once you know it. Unfortunately,
the almighty j/k keys for scrolling makes sense in both modes,
so I think we really have to keep them mode dependent. Furthermore,
Space should always act on scrolling the message itself (and going to the
next one when at the end).

That's probably a feature, if you have read my rant about mutt, you'd
probably never want to even try it out :)

All those pass-through modes are really stupid, actually there were/are
plans also for vimperator to still allow ctrl-c/x/v do the "normal"
operation of cut/copy/paste and find another way to do some kind of
pass through mode. So probably once we have decided on how to handle
that in vimperator, the problem of copying will also be solved in muttator.

I really implemented the design of pass-through when i was a 100% linux
user during my university times. Now that I came in contact with Windows
on my work and with Mac on my girlfriend's laptop again, i know it was
a really bad decision to override ctrl-c/x/v :)

The current idea (also for vimperator), is to just keep the INSERT mode
quite unchanged from Firefox's default (apart from adding ctrl-w, and
ctrl-u shortcuts for deleting words/lines, as this is really an important
- often missing - feature). So then, once can just copy/cut/paste normally
while in insert mode, and not need passthrough in INSERT anyway. We
also would not need an additional, confusing READONLY mode just to copy text.

What do you think about the idea?
