Interesting idea. Personally, my theme uses a graduated background fill which is indented in the Outline. Pastel colours used as they're easy on the eye. I find this makes the Outline view really stand out. It also looks good in a grouped To-Do view as it shows the groupings more clearly. Font = Calibri (one of Microsoft's better design efforts).
Apart from the theme, I use all upper case for folder captions and lower case for task captions. I use a custom font colour for my most important top level folder so that it shows up clearly in To-Do. I use a custom font colour and background for top level folders and their sub folders/tasks not appearing in To-Do. With all the formatting options it's easy to get carried away and end up with a technicolor mess. Less is more. It took me a lot of experimenting to get the look I wanted.
