I just tried it again.  I used a new profile called Test on both desktop and
android.  I created a task called Test 1 - PC side on the desktop and
synced.  It showed up on the android.  I then created another task called
Test 2 - Device side and synced.  It showed up on the desktop!

Having seen progress, I opened up my normal file and changed profiles on the
android.  I synced to get the android data back with the desktop.  I added a
"test 1 - device" task on the android and synced.  It appeared on the
desktop.  None of this has happened prior to today, so I don't know what was
going on.
