Richard, What I was suggesting was that the dialog box that pops up again and again really is a nuisance and should either be removed or made optional (via a "Don't show this again" checkbox). I imagine (and Wesley's original message confirms) that this dialog is also displayed in situations other than searching a filtered list.
Showing a modal dialog box every time a search result is selected in the list, and thereby interrupting the user's flow when viewing the task list - this, IMO, is the badly designed part. In support of my contention, please see "About Face 2.0: The Essentials of Interaction Design" by Alan Cooper, chapter "Stopping the Proceedings", pp. 138-139. The case in MLO may not be as clear-cut as the examples given there (e.g. showing a "File deleted" dialog after deleting a file), but it comes very close, and its effect on the user is exactly the same: annoyance at being needlessly interrupted. The drop-down you mention does indeed help in this specific case. It is quite unobtrusive, so thank you :) marek On Sat, Jun 4, 2011 at 18:40, Richard Collings <[email protected]> wrote: > If I have understood the underlying requirement, you want to search for > tasks and only find those that are not completed? > > > > If so, there is a not very clear drop down above the Search results on the > left hand side where you can choose ‘All except completed’ which will then > only show uncompleted tasks in the search results. > > > > Does this work for you? > > > > Richard > > > > *From:* [email protected] [mailto: > [email protected]] *On Behalf Of *Marek Jedlinski > *Sent:* 03 June 2011 11:07 PM > *To:* [email protected] > *Subject:* Re: [MLO] Re: How to get around the "Task not found in current > outline view.
