Among the infuriating problems I've had with active license management systems:

1. Antivirus software declares it to be a trojan and shuts it down, preventing 
use of the disaster you've licensed

2. Firewall blocks it

3. When your hard drive fails and has to be restored from backup, the phone 
home process says that the license cannot be installed on a second machine. In 
order to clear the problem you have to go to the original installation and 
de-authorize it,  which would require a time machine.
