I would guess that the problem you have arises because your PC gets assigned a different address on your home network and work network. WiFi sync seems to work by the mobile device looking for a PC with the same IP address as when you originally set up the WiFi sync. If the PC's IP address has changed (eg through being on a different network) then the mobile device can no longer find it.
In this case, on the PC you need to go to Tools/options/WiFi synchronisation to find the current IP address of the PC, and then enter that address into the Synchronisation/WiFi setting on the mobile device. I would guess that if you were able to assign the PC a fixed IP address which worked on both networks the problem would disappear, but then you would probably have trouble hooking into other WiFi networks. Otherwise you'll need cloud sync of some kind, about which there has been quite a bit of discussion on this forum over the years.
