Lisa: would there ever be a time when you would want to separate the first
instance of a recurring task without changing it? If not, I would suggest
that it might be easier to understand if the UI change did not mention the
separation function explicitly but rather implemented it as an implicit
component of the task modification. What I'm suggesting is that when a user
modified a recurring task, MLO would ask "You are modifying a recurring
task. Do you want to modify the first instance or the entire series?" If the
answer is "entire series" the modification would be processed exactly as is
done today. If the answer is "first instance" then the first instance would
be disconnected from the series as you described and the new separate
instance would be modified, leaving the series unmodified except that start
and due dates will be bumped to the next occurrence and modified date will
reflect "now".

Subject: [MLO] Feature request: separate recurrence

Andrey et al,

A very nice and not hard to implement feature would be to separate the first
instance from a recurring task. It would reset the recurring task to the
next recurrence as if it had been completed, then create (right above the
recurring task) a copy with the current recurrence. Just like alternative
complete but without the complete part and without moving the original task
to the bottom.

So for example, recurring task "take out the trash" every Tuesday. Trash
isn't coming because it's a holiday week. Separate instance creates
non-recurring task for this Tuesday and moves recurring task to next
Tuesday. Then I can edit date to Wednesday without affecting further
instances.
