Follow-up Comment #1, bug #15350 (project mypaint):
After some additional testing ( dropping files from Thunar continuously,
monitoring python2.6 memory usage via periodical "ps aux | grep python |cut
-d \ -f 11" in a terminal..
1. memory usage rises after every load or save
2. after loading, memory usage rises by about 30*disk size (2.9 mb -> 87mb of
memory)
3. after saving, memory usage rose by about 14*disksize (2.9mb -> 41mb) then
dropped to only 1.3mb above the previous memory usage level.
Conclusion:
Saving leaks some memory,
Opening may not leak any memory; if it doesn't, then disposing of an image
must be the cause of the huge memory leak.
I can provide the 2.9mb main test file if needed. it's extremely simply
structured -- a single layer 2304x2688px image. with a plain black background
