Update of bug #17473 (project mypaint):
Status: None => Confirmed
Summary: Avoid accidental data loss when saving an image
with layers to non-layer-aware formats => Accidental data loss when saving an
image to non-OpenRaster formats too easy
_______________________________________________________
Follow-up Comment #2:
Everything but OpenRaster will "lose" data when saving (all cases have layers
for instance). Some cases are just more destructive than others.
I think if we really care about this, we should probably go the GIMP 2.8+
way: Let save be only for our working-format (OpenRaster) and let export be
for PNG/JPEG/multiple-PNG et.c.
Pop-up warnings are horrible; if I told the software to do something, it
should (for the most part) just do it.
Greyed-out options are also not very good, as it is typically hard to figure
out why they are greyed out.
The GIMP way has been approved by a usability expert. And using it for
MyPaint also means being consistent with related software.
